Nose to the Grindstone

Starting the Train

I’m ramping up work on Photo Ops.   To get it out faster, I have decided that it would be best if I drop out of all other activities and events going on (as much as I can) .   My plan is to get at least 4 hours a night, 6 nights a week.   I may get more or less on the weekends.   Everyone I’ve talked to is excited about it and wishing me the best of luck.   A few more people have also contacted me about beta-testing (which I still need more!).

Guess-timating Completion

I’m staring at about 120 hours of development still ahead of me.   That gives me about 5 or so weeks to get Photo Ops done.   There’s a lot of work still yet to be done.   A bug last night cost me about 3 hours to track down, fix and move on.   When you’re doing this in 4 hour increments, it might as well be a day lost.   To give you a sense about how long this is taking, I’ve got about 44 hours of development in already on this version.   Most of it  has been  spent on the licensing, which would be a whole lot easier if I didn’t have to worry about hackers.

Current Status

I’ve done a little bit with the user interface and have still farther to go on the licensing.   It is the most difficult thing to work in an area that I’ve not developed in before.   This client-server talking and interaction stuff is all new to me.   Once I get back to the new features of Photo Ops that will actually mean something to the user, I believe things will move much more quickly.    It will also be  easier to forecast how much time will be required for a certain feature’s implementation.

Thanks again for your patience – I’m  working as hard as I can to get this done with quality, reliability, and great expediency.
